POACHERS MILSIM
AN ARMA 3 MILITARY SIMULATION UNIT
FAQ
MOST FREQUENT QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
The unit aims to provide its members with an ‘authentic’ military simulation experience.
We strongly adhere to British Army Standard Operating Procedures (‘SOPs’) so far as the ARMA 3 engine allows.
To achieve this we use a number of first and secondhand sources as well as being fortunate enough to have active military personnel advising our every move.
More specifically, we aim to emulate the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Anglian Regiment. This battalion conuct themselves as Light Mechanised Infantry (‘LMI’) utilising the Foxhound Light Protected Patrol Vehicle.
Light mechanised infantry possesses sufficient organic protected lift for operational and tactical mobility. When supported by aviation these combined arms groupings can operate in a dispersed manner and at range while retaining organic protected mobility and the flexibility to redeploy rapidly. Light mechanised infantry can be employed in ground-holding dismounted close combat, but will be required to be grouped with or supported by heavy forces where mission, threat and terrain dictates.
The minimum age requirment for the unit is 18.
However, above all else we value: Courage, Discipline, Respect for Others, Integrity, Loyalty and Selfless Commitment.
Therefore in exceptional circumstance we may accept applicants of 16 years of age if they demonstrate our core values.
The minimum age requirement for the unit’s Joint Helicopter Command attachment is 18. There are not exception available.
Our main events take place every Sunday at 1900GMT-2200GMT.
Events typically last 3 hours.
In short, yes.
In order to provide an authentic experience, members must be familiar with British Army SOPs.
Upon successful application, members undergo our version of ‘Phase 1’. Depending on experience this session could last anywhere between 45 minutes to 3 hours.
Here you’ll become familiarised with the Six Section Battle Drills.
Upon completion you will be assigned to a Section within 8 Platoon and ready to begin your time with the unit.
After this, training is conducted over a period of 4 weeks across the unit cycle: 4 weeks Pre-Deployment Training, 8-10 weeks ‘deployed’, 4 week Pre-Deployment training.
Training takes the form of short theory session, ‘dry’ runs, and culminate in ‘live-fire’ exercises either PvE or PvP.
As with most units in the ARMA-verse, ours also requires an extensive list of modifications. As of current, approximately 38GB.
We utilise the Steam Workshop for all of our mods and therefore use a simple HTML drag-and-drop system; no third party installation software is required.
One you have our ‘core-pack’ of around 60 mods, variations will be made on 8-10 week cycles depending on the demands of the campaign.
We utilise the ACRE2 communication suite, thus Teamspeak 3 is a requirement for all members. This is free software available online.
